Fiber35 Diet - Frequently Asked Questions
Fiber Q & A with Digestive Care Expert Brenda Watson
Fiber How much fiber should I take each day?
I recommend 35 grams of fiber a day.
If you are currently eating a very low fiber diet, increase your fiber slowly. (Increase
by 5 grams at a time for a week until you reach the 35 grams a day)
When is the best time to take fiber?
You can take fiber at any time of the day, either with
food or on an empty stomach. We suggest that you separate fiber from other supplements
by 30-60 minutes.
What can I mix the fiber into?
Our fiber mixes well in water,
juice, protein drinks or fruit smoothies. Fiber can also be sprinkled on foods.
What is the difference between soluble and insoluble fiber?
Insoluble fiber works
like a broom and does a sweeping motion as it moves through the digestive tract.
Soluble fiber works like a sponge absorbing things like toxins. Soluble fiber may
also help in lowering cholesterol.
How do I know which kind of fiber to take?
A
fiber product with both insoluble and soluble fiber is necessary to promote regularity.
A fiber blend with a similar ratio of insoluble to soluble fiber as a diet high
in fresh fruits and vegetables is what the body recognizes as natural. The ideal
ratio for most people is approximately 75% insoluble fiber to 25% soluble fiber.
For people with occasional diarrhea or loose stools, higher soluble fiber may be
beneficial.
